King Salmon on Kodiak
We would love to serve you on a charter fishing trip to Kodiak in 2025!
Being that king salmon hang out in the same thermocline as pollock, many are being trawled to death and wasted as bycatch in the massive dragger fishery, managed by the NPFMC. If you can’t be selective in what you kill in your method of fishing, you have no business being a fisherman. Hunters and fisherman are stewards of the water and land that give them food and fun. Be a voice for the king salmon and do not purchases trawl caught fish products at your store. Why go to the store to buy fish when you can come up to Kodiak and slam enough for the year in a fun filled week?! We hope to serve you on a trip.
Big Yellow Eye Rockfish
These are return clients Robyne and John, showing us how to do it!
One of my favorite fish to see come up is a big Yellow Eye. They can be found on deep rocks near drop offs. Their built like an absolute tank, and pull hard until the decompression gets them on their way up! Rockfish meat is a unique, firm, whitefish, in my opinion extremely well suited for fish tacos. If you want to have an amazing experience on Kodiak in Larsen Bay, while taking home enough fish for tacos all year, Driftwood Wilderness Lodge is the perfect spot for an all-inclusive, fully guided Alaskan fishing trip.

This post is a little late, but definitely wanted to report our last day out fishing on 12/14/24, we almost hit a jumping salmon shark on the way out and had two follow halibut baits up to the boat. Can you believe it!? Next time, we will be ready with cable rigs, and preferably a whole pink salmon! Who wants to go hook up with one and see if you have what it takes to bring it to the boat?! Tight lines, everyone, and best of luck to you on the water this coming year.
Captains Log 2024
I’m sitting here tying up gear for 2025, reflecting on 2024. We had a fantastic season and are always improving. In 2024, improvements were made to the KITA in the form of an auto pilot, giving us the ability to stay on the fish, especially while trolling. We also put Sharrow Props on the outboards, giving us longer range, more fuel economy and greater speed to get to the best spots quickly.
Our off grid annex at Whitney Creek has experienced vast renovations recently, including a renewable energy system, instant hot water systems, and beautiful planed driftwood sheeting on the interior. Come be among the first to enjoy it in 2025!
There were many memorable trips is 2024, but we started out with a particularly big bang!
Memorable 2024 Trips
King salmon for the Bathurst Family.
Many amazing trips were had throughout 2024, starting out with a great family, the Bathursts. They absolutely killed it, catching every specie Kodiak has to offer. We hope they will be back.
